OUR WORK
Fundación Retoño is the only organization in the country that tends to children and youth from age 0 to 16,
providing them with free, broad and secular care and education.
Nina Gorrissen, our founder and main donor, has always aspired to set up a full educational cycle
for children living in high risk social vulnerability contexts in Uruguay.
Educationally, Fundación Retoño has two main projects located on its own premises in Puntas de Manga which care for approximately 750 children: Centro Espigas, which opened in 2005 and Liceo Espigas, inaugurated in March 2016. An extensive area of the 10 hectares owned by the Foundation is dedicated to growing vegetables and fruits, later used in the dining rooms.
The Foundation’s work also includes other projects such as the construction and funding of an ambulatory medical and dental clinic, located on the same premises, financing of observerships at Mayo Clinic, U.S.A and donations to the Cochlear Implants Programme, among others.
OBJECTIVES
To be an inspiration for the community in which our main projects are located, as well as for the rest of the country.
To contribute to the formal educational system, seeking to avoid school and high school dropouts.
To provide ambulatory medical and dental care for our children and their families, including prevention courses.
To financially contribute and work with other organizations having similar objectives.
