Our Mission

In order to carry out its mission, Fundación Retoño Uruguay has, among other endeavours, two flagship projects which assist children from 0 to 15 years old: the Espigas Education Center which has been active for more than 10 years and the Liceo Espigas (Espigas High School) which opened in 2016. Both projects operate in a 10 hectares piece of land owned by the Foundation at the Puntas de Manga neighbourhood and areas of influence, very deprived areas on the outskirts of Montevideo.

The Foundation's work is aimed at providing the children with a supportive environment, where education, transmission of values and work habits, and a highly qualified professional staff are key elements in order to achieve those goals.

Fundación Retoño was incorporated in Vaduz, Principality of Liechtenstein and operates in Uruguay since February 22, 2002 with legal status granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay. Baroness Nina von Maltzahn is Fundación Retoño's founder and main sponsor and Mrs. Elizabeth Mallo de Brugnini is its Representative in Uruguay.
